Impressive new data from October 2020 suggests that in the 27 EU countries, between Feb 2020 and April 2020 there was a decrease of 25.7% in construction production, while between August and April 2020, construction production increased by 30.5 %. Therefore – European construction activity was back at 97.0 % of the level it had reached in February.
This figure shows the development of construction activities between January and August 2020 for total construction, buildings and civil engineering.
Even though all construction activities have been allowed to continue in most parts of the US and Canada since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, many projects in the bidding or final planning stages have been delayed or canceled. NNorth America’s construction output is forecast to fall by 6.5% in 2020, with Canada projected to see the steepest decline in output (-7%) owed in part to the collapse in global oil prices, while construction output in the US is projected to decrease by -6.5%, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
GlobalData further points that in North America they expect construction activity to remain weak over the remaining forecast period (2021-2024).
